Lewis Pullman or Lewis James Pullman is an American actor. He is the son of actor Bill Pullman and began his acting career with the film The Ballad of Lefty Brown (2017), co-starring with his father. His other film credits include The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022).

On television he played Major Major Major Major in Catch-22 (2019) and starred in Outer Range (2022) and Lessons in Chemistry (2023). He received nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Independent Spirit Awards for his role as a chemist in Lessons in Chemistry.

Early life and Education

Bill Pullman was born on December 17, 1953, in Hornell, New York. As a teenager he attended Hornell High School and graduated in 1971. He then went on to study at the State University of New York at Delhi and the State University of New York at Oneonta. He earned his MFA degree in theater from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Initially pursuing a career in academia he taught theater at SUNY Delhi and was an adjunct professor at Montana State University’s film school.

His interest shifted towards acting in the 1980s and he began working with theater companies in New York and Los Angeles. In 1986 he made his feature film debut in the black comedy “Ruthless People,” which starred Danny DeVito and Bette Midler.
