Wilson was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised in a Puerto Rican family. His mother’s name is Iris Echevarria. His family moved to Rialto, California, where he attended Eisenhower High School. He graduated in 1991. When Wilson was 19 years old, he came out as gay to his mother and then to his father. His father threw him out of his home, where he stayed in his car and at a friend’s house for a few months. He later reconciled with his father. He has a brother, Jushua Cruz, who is also a gay actor.
